New! Create your own route

Who knows best what to see at the museum? You do, of course! That’s why our app makes it easier than ever to create your own itinerary. When you tap on For you you’ll see an option to Create your own route. Just tap on the works you want to see in the museum. Are you a fan of Vermeer, of furniture, or of cats in art? Scroll through the categories and pick what you’d like to see. The app maps out the ideal route and directs you from one object to the next.

Can’t choose?

If you’re not feeling inspired to create a route of your own, you can also choose from those created by other visitors. We’ll help you narrow down the choices with a couple of questions and then pick a route we think you’ll like. In the mood for love? Try out Valentine by C. van der Harten. Or how about a seaside stroll? You might like Harry’s Sea route. It’s like a Spotify playlist for art!

Follow one of our tours

Want to learn more about Rembrandt, the highlights of the museum or the building itself? Try one of the multimedia tours in the app, which are the same as those available for hire at the museum’s multimedia desk. The navigation tool and interactive floor plan make it easy to find your way from one gallery to the next. With stories from the Rijksmuseum plus expert and artist interviews, you’ll see so much more than you would on your own.

Search by number or name

Even if you’re not doing a tour or route, you can enter numbered objects in the app’s search tool to read more details about the artist or work. You can also use it to look up information about works and where to find them in the museum. Want the fastest route to The Jewish Bride? Or to see paintings by The Hague School or Mondriaan? Just type what you’re looking for in the app. It’s like having the whole Rijksmuseum in your pocket!

Rembrandt at home

You can see paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer and Breitner at the Rijksmuseum, in the heart of Amsterdam. But you can also enjoy them in the comfort of your own home. Explore all your favourite works in the app before or after your visit. Scroll and swipe through the artworks at your own pace and zoom in to see the tiniest details. The app also lets you easily save images to your own Rijksstudio collection.

Our deepest gratitude

The Rijksmuseum App was made possible with support from our chief sponsor, KPN, and developed in association with KPN, Fabrique, Q42 and Movin. The multimedia tours were made possible by the VSBfonds and all the experts and contributors who volunteered their time. Wi-Fi in the Rijksmuseum is provided by Cisco. We are deeply grateful to all these wonderful partners.
